Duties of Committee Members
Student members of the Promotions Committee provide an advisory vote which is considered by the six voting faculty members. SOM administration (education deans and counselors) also attend the meetings but do not vote. They are there to educate the committee about the curriculum and due process, as well as individual students’ progress.
Most committee business is routine but the appeals process can be challenging. Students who are appealing committee decisions provide written statements and often appear for a hearing. Student committee members are frequently called upon to give their views on appeals. Your principal duty is to speak and vote your conscience. Of course, confidentiality is of critical importance; nothing can leave the room.
There are several meetings of the Promotions Committee scheduled for this summer, so you should plan on being around the area this summer if you are interested in the Promotions Committee. There will also be several meetings throughout the year.
Elected representatives serve for a four-year term unless unable to fulfill required duties.
For further inquiry, please contact the representatives from your individual class.
